UIRS accessibility assessment
Description of the facility
Description of the Facility
The open-air museum is poorly accessible. Adapted parking spaces are located far from the entrance to the open-air museum. The walking path through the museum is unpaved (rough sand or earth) and rises in several parts. Along the walking path leading to the viewpoint, various buildings of cultural heritage (Smith’s house, vineyard house, apiary, blacksmith’s shop, farm building, hayrack, etc.) do not allow entry for wheelchair users due to stairs and high thresholds at the doors. The small information booth, ticket purchase area, and shop, as well as the restrooms in a distant museum house, are not accessible to people with mobility impairments. There are no adaptations for sensory impaired persons in the museum.
Adaptations
Mobility impaired:
- The reception desk in the small information booth is height-adjusted for wheelchair users, but due to narrow doors and a height difference at the entrance, it is inaccessible to them.
Blind and visually impaired:
- The signboard at the entrance to the open-air museum is appropriate.
Deaf and hard of hearing:
- The reception desk in the information booth is adequately lit and allows lip reading and facial expression reading,
- The glass of the reception desk is not reflective or shiny.
Shortcomings
Mobility impaired:
- An adapted parking space is provided but it is distant,
- The access path has an incline and is slippery due to the surface (sandy path),
- The entrance to the information booth is inaccessible due to a high threshold and narrow doors,
- The walking path through the open-air museum is unpaved (rough sand or earth) and steep in parts,
- There are height differences that are not adequately bridged in front of entrances to individual cultural heritage buildings and inside them,
- There are no adapted sanitary facilities in the open-air museum (restrooms are located in a distant museum house, and access to them is hindered by a steep slope or stairs).
Blind and visually impaired:
- The window of the reception desk in the information booth is not marked with contrast,
- Edges of stairs and height differences in buildings and on the walking path are not marked with contrast,
- There are no tactile ground surface indicators or adaptations.
Deaf and hard of hearing:
- The museum does not have a portable hearing loop.
