UIRS accessibility assessment
Description of the facility
The museum is poorly accessible and is located in the corner spaces of Vrbovec Castle. A very steep ramp leads to the museum preventing independent use by wheelchair users. The interior has a few different surfaces that impede access to all areas (bark, sand, log bridge). The museum does not have accessible toilet rooms. The exhibition enables experiential exploration of the exhibited items.
Adaptations:
People with mobility impairments:
- There is an accessible parking spot near the entrance,
- The height of the reception desk is adapted to wheelchair users,
- The changes of level inside have been suitably addressed (interior ramp),
- There is sufficient room to manoeuvre indoors.
People with visual impairments:
- The entrance to the building is easily recognizable,
- The reception desk is located in the immediate vicinity of the entrance,
- There are no abrupt transitions from light to dark spaces in the building,
- Selected exhibited items enable tactile exploration of the exhibition material.
People with hearing impairments:
- There are no major adaptations.
Deficiencies:
People with mobility impairments:
- The accessible parking spot is not spacious or designated well enough,
- The building main entrance is not accessible due to the overly steep ramp in front of the building,
- The building does not have accessible sanitary facilities,
- The exhibited items in the exhibition spaces are not placed at suitable heights.
People with visual impairments:
- The exhibition signage and lettering are not placed at suitable heights,
- The information is only provided visually,
- Height obstacles are not suitably marked (protruding exhibited items).
People with hearing impairments:
- The reception desk is not adequately lit and does not enable lip-reading and interpreting facial expressions,
- The building is not equipped with an induction loop.
