Description of the facility

The library is partially accessible. There is a passage to the atrium courtyard, from which mobility-impaired users can reach the library entrance via a ramp. The entrance doors and the doors to the atrium have a high threshold. Portable ramps are used to cross thresholds. Access to the library is also possible via stairs directly from the passage between the main entrance and the atrium.
Inside the library, there is sufficient maneuvering space. An adapted sanitary facility is available. Accessible materials for blind and visually impaired users are provided.

Adaptations:

Mobility impaired:

  • an accessible parking space is marked near the entrance,
  • a portable ramp is available at the building entrance when needed,
  • there is a ramp from the atrium courtyard to the library,
  • the loan desk is at a height suitable for wheelchair users,
  • sufficient maneuvering space is available inside,
  • the arrangement of bookshelves allows access with a wheelchair,
  • adapted sanitary facilities are available.

Blind and visually impaired:

  • the entrance is clearly recognizable,
  • there are no sudden transitions from light to dark areas,
  • signage is contrastive and legible,
  • accessible materials are available (audiobooks, large print books, Braille books).

Deaf and hard of hearing:

  • the loan desk is well-lit and allows lip reading and facial expression reading.

Shortcomings:

Mobility impaired:

  • the marked accessible parking space is not of adequate dimensions and is placed beside the road and sidewalk,
  • the accessible parking space is not indicated with a vertical sign,
  • there is a high threshold at the building entrance,
  • the ramp from the atrium courtyard lacks handrails for easier use.

Blind and visually impaired:

  • the accessible path from the parking to the entrance is not marked,
  • information board at the main entrance is not at an appropriate height,
  • the loan desk is not contrast-marked,
  • signage is not at appropriate heights,
  • edges of stairs and level differences are not contrast-marked.

Deaf and hard of hearing:

  • the loan desk is not equipped with a hearing loop (not a mandatory requirement),
  • the glass loan desk is positioned so that windows are behind it.
