Description of the facility

The bookstore and stationery store is partially accessible. The stationery store is located on the ground floor and the bookstore on the first floor that is accessible via the stairs or a lift on the side entrance. The height of the sales and information counters and the manoeuvre areas between the bookshelves are unsuitable for wheelchair users. The lighting is adequate everywhere, except the stairs. There is also an event area in the bookstore with moveable seating.
The bookstore also has a separate office for collecting ordered materials “Modra hiša” (Blue House) on the ground floor of the atrium that is accessible through the side entrance.

Adaptations:

People with mobility impairments:

  • The main entrance to the building on the ground floor is accessible,
  • Access to the bookstore is enabled via the side entrance and has a lift,
  • The side entrance has an automatic (sliding) door,
  • There is a ramp enabling access to “Modra hiša” (Blue House) enabling independent use,
  • There is a suitably sized lift in the building (the side entrance).

People with visual impairments:

  • The edges of the changes of level have contrasting visual markings, 
  • The sales areas are adequately lit.

People with hearing impairments:

  • The reception desk is adequately lit and enables lip-reading and interpreting facial expressions,
  • The reception desk glazing is non-reflective or non-glaring.

Deficiencies:

People with mobility impairments:

  • There are no accessible parking spots near the building because the building is located in the centre of town,
  • There is no signage for the side entrance with a lift at the main entrance,
  • The main and side entrances have heavy doors,
  • The height of the sales and information desks is not adapted to wheelchair users,
  • There is not sufficient room to manoeuvre in certain parts of the bookstore and stationery store,
  • The building does not have accessible sanitary facilities (optional condition).

People with visual impairments:

  • The advertising signage on the stair risers are distracting and dangerous when walking,
  • The stairs are not adequately lit.

People with hearing impairments:

  • The sales counter, information counter and event area are not equipped with an induction loop.
