Description of the facility

The Cukrarna premises are well accessible. The bus stop is located nearby and is reachable via a walking path and then a sidewalk. Accessible parking spaces are available in the parking lot near the entrance.

The main entrance consists of double glass doors, motorized swing doors that are heavy to open, but their closing is controlled—they wait until the visitor has crossed. Wheelchair users may still find independent entry difficult. The entrance doors are not marked with contrast strips or indicators.
There is also a side entrance through the café, which has glass doors that are heavy to open, with a 20 mm threshold, and similarly lacking contrast markings.

The gallery exhibition spaces are located on several floors, accessible via a large elevator. They are spacious, providing ample maneuvering space. Most exhibits are at an appropriate height, but text descriptions sometimes reach too high or have insufficiently large font.
During the site inspection, objects potentially hazardous for visually impaired visitors—pointed, sharp, and low-contrast art pieces—were placed on the ground floor.
Some corridor and staircase areas are poorly lit, with frequent transitions from dark to bright areas.

The building includes a café where tables on the ground floor are accessible for wheelchair users, but the balcony tables are not. Access to the café stage is also not possible for wheelchair users.
There is a classroom on the mezzanine level, used occasionally for creative workshops, accessible via a separate staircase or elevator (located near the main entrance). The maneuvering space at the upper elevator stop is quite limited, which may hinder access for larger wheelchairs. Accessible restrooms are located in the basement, reachable by elevator.

Adjustments

Mobility-impaired persons:

  • Accessible parking is located near the entrance,
  • The main entrance is accessible,
  • The side entrance is partially accessible for wheelchair users,
  • There is sufficient maneuvering space inside for wheelchair users,
  • There is a suitably sized elevator for wheelchair users,
  • Accessible restrooms are available,
  • Exhibits in gallery spaces are at appropriate heights for wheelchair users,
  • No further major adjustments for mobility-impaired persons are required.

Blind and visually impaired persons:

  • The reception desk is near the entrance,
  • Most signs and labels are at an appropriate height,
  • Most signs and labels are contrasting and readable,
  • Elevator buttons are tactile,
  • Edges of staircases are marked with contrast.

Deaf and hard of hearing persons:

  • The reception desk is well-lit, allowing lip reading and recognition of facial expressions,
  • The reception desk is positioned so there are no windows behind it.

Deficiencies

Mobility-impaired persons:

  • The reception desk is not height-adjusted for wheelchair users,
  • Some interior areas (e.g., part of the corridor in front of the classroom) do not provide enough maneuvering space for wheelchair users,
  • There are no further major deficiencies for mobility-impaired persons.

Blind and visually impaired persons:

  • The entrance is not clearly recognizable,
  • There is no signage near the main entrance,
  • Glass doors are not marked with contrast,
  • There are sudden transitions from light to dark areas,
  • Some signs and labels are not at the appropriate height,
  • Required information is not provided audibly (no audio guide),
  • Pathways are obstructed by hazardous objects (art pieces),
  • Obstacles and hazardous objects are not properly marked (art pieces),
  • Exhibits do not allow tactile exploration of the displayed material.

Deaf and hard of hearing persons:

  • The building is not equipped with a hearing loop for hard-of-hearing persons,
  • The gallery does not provide guided tours with a sign language interpreter.
