Description of the facility

The house is poorly accessible for wheelchair users, while it is partially accessible for other people with disabilities. Wheelchair users can only access the ground floor with the reception area and an internal atrium, which can be turned into an event space, through the side entrance.
The main entrance has a high threshold and a few steps to the reception area, which is located in a separate space to the left of the entrance. The museum’s exhibition areas, sanitary facilities and small hall are located on the first floor of the building and are only accessible via steep, narrow stairs. The building does not have a lift. The museum does not have accessible sanitary facilities. 
The exhibition areas are adequately lit. The hall has moveable seating and is not equipped with an induction loop.

Adaptations: 

People with mobility impairments: 

  • There is an accessible parking spot near the entrance (as part of city parking), 
  • The side entrance is (partly) adapted for wheelchairs (does not enable independent use), 
  • The height of the reception desk is adapted to wheelchair users. 

People with visual impairments: 

  • The entrance to the building is easily recognizable. 

People with hearing impairments: 

  • The reception desk is adequately lit and enables lip-reading and interpreting facial expressions, 
  • The hall has adequate sound insulation. 

Deficiencies: 

People with mobility impairments: 

  • The building main entrance is not accessible (due to a threshold and three stairs). Access to the building is through the side entrance, 
  • The changes of level in the interior of the building are not adequately addressed, the building does not have a lift, 
  • The building does not have accessible sanitary facilities. 

People with visual impairments: 

  • The signboard at the main entrance is unsuitable (tiny print), 
  • The reception desk is not located in the immediate vicinity of the entrance, 
  • The path to the remote reception desk is not marked with tactile floor markings, 
  • The exhibition signage does not have contrasting visual markings and is not readable, 
  • The edges of stairs and thresholds do not have contrasting visual markings, 
  • The path is blocked by solitary obstacles (protruding display case) that are not suitably marked, 
  • None of the exhibited items enable tactile exploration of the exhibited material. 

People with hearing impairments: 

  • The hall and reception desk are not equipped with an induction loop.
