Description of the facility

The Slovene National Theatre Nova Gorica is partially accessible, but poorly accessible for wheelchair users.
The accessible path from the nearest bus stop to the main entrance runs along the sidewalk, next to the building, and turns under the entrance arcades. The entrance can also be reached via the main staircase and a narrow ramp in front of the building. The paths have no tactile or contrasting ground markings, and the stairs are not suitably adapted (handrails, contrasting step edges).
The accessible path to the service entrance (at the back of the building), where wheelchair users can enter, leads through the staff parking area and ramp. There are also two parking spaces adapted for wheelchair users.
At the raised main entrance, there are glass doors that are difficult to perceive and have no contrasting markings. A contact phone number is provided on the door for mobility-impaired persons to call and be received at the service entrance. The route from the main entrance to the service entrance is not marked.
Inside the theatre, there are two halls: the large hall has an entrance to the stalls on the ground floor and to the balcony on the first floor; the small hall is entirely located on the first floor.
Through the main entrance to the right, in the foyer, there is a ticket office that is glass-enclosed, not height-adjusted for wheelchair users, and not equipped with a hearing loop. However, it has a voice amplifier. Next to it is a cloakroom with service staff.
Wheelchair users can reach the foyer of the large hall from the service entrance, passing the reception desk and through a side corridor with doors.
In the large hall, there are four wheelchair spaces planned at the beginning and end of the 8th row of the stalls, but they are too small. The hall is not equipped with an induction loop and does not provide subtitles.
The main sanitary facilities are located in the basement, accessible only by stairs from the foyer. Orientation there is made difficult by glossy floor surfaces and large wall mirrors. The toilet for wheelchair users is accessed directly from the foyer. It is too small, and the equipment is not properly installed or height-adjusted.
From the foyer, stairs lead to the first floor, where access to the balcony of the large hall is provided through an anteroom. From there, a passage leads to the anteroom of the small hall.
For wheelchair users, access to the same anteroom is provided via a route past the reception desk at the service entrance and then to the first floor by means of an internal lift, which is not of suitable size or load capacity.
The small hall can be entered via stairs at the back or via a ramp at the front. There are no designated wheelchair spaces in the small hall, and it is not equipped with an induction loop or subtitle projection.
On the ground floor, there is also an exhibition space with a separate external entrance and an internal passage. Due to height differences at both entrances, the space is inaccessible to wheelchair users.
None of the backstage areas are without level differences, nor are they properly bridged, and are therefore inaccessible to performers using wheelchairs.

Adaptations

  • an adapted parking space is located near the service entrance,
  • the side (service) entrance is partially adapted for wheelchair users,
