Description of the facility

The Rudnik Library is located inside a larger commercial building that is poorly accessible.
It is near a bus stop, and there is paid parking adjacent to the building. A marked accessible parking space is at entrance level, but the path to the doors is paved with granite cubes.
At the entrance, there is a Direct4.me machine for picking up borrowed materials, but the lockers are placed only at a height of 1500 mm, making it inaccessible.
The library is on the first floor, accessible via stairs or a vertical lift platform, which was not reliably working at the time of inspection. On the stair landing, near the window, there is a lintel creating a height obstacle. Parts of the path through the building to the library rooms are also on a steep and uneven slope (bridge-like).
The library spaces span two floors. On the initial (first) floor, there is the main desk and a small reading room, which also serves as a multifunctional space. Access to the upper floor is only possible via stairs. Reception desks are height-adjusted. The library tables are not sized appropriately to allow frontal wheelchair access.
The library has no hearing loops.
The building also lacks adapted sanitary facilities. Non-adapted restrooms are located on the ground floor, but there are three steps immediately before the restroom doors.

Adaptations:

Mobility impaired:

  • Accessible parking space near the entrance,
  • Vertical lift platform installed in the building for wheelchair users,
  • Reception desk is height-adjusted for wheelchair users.

Blind and visually impaired:

  • Edges of stairs are marked with contrast.

Deaf and hard of hearing:

  • The reception desk is well-lit and allows for lip reading and facial expression observation.

Deficiencies:

Mobility impaired:

  • The terrain from the parking lot to the building entrance is partly steep and improperly paved,
  • The Direct4.me machine at the entrance is not at an accessible height,
  • Height differences inside the library are not properly bridged; the upper floor is inaccessible,
  • Library tables are not appropriately sized for frontal wheelchair access,
  • The computer for independent material search is positioned too high,
  • No adapted sanitary facilities in the building.

Blind and visually impaired:

  • The sign near the main entrance is behind reflective glazing,
  • There is a lintel near the window on the stair landing representing a height obstacle,
  • The glass doors of the library rooms are not contrast-marked.
