UIRS accessibility assessment
Description of the facility
The Trubar Homestead complex is poorly accessible.
There are no bus stops or designated accessible parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the site.
Only the Tourist Information Center (the hayrack building) is relatively accessible, as it has been renovated and is close to an area where temporary stopping or parking is possible. The entrance doors are glass but lack contrasting markings. The reception area does not provide sufficient maneuvering space. While there is enough space to pass through the exhibition area, some narrow sections (910 mm) are obstructed by exhibition elements, making it impossible for a wheelchair user to turn toward the wall. The display element with pull-out drawers on the top surface is not accessible to wheelchair users. The text and labels on the walls are large enough but not legible or contrasting. The exhibition room includes a simulation area that is inaccessible to wheelchair users due to a narrow doorway and raised threshold.
The access path to the reception and museum shop (the barn) is partially paved and steep. The reception area is located on a raised ground floor. The entrance is not accessible for wheelchair users, as there is no ramp beside the exterior stairs. Access from the reception to the gallery is also not properly arranged. Signs and exhibits in the exhibition space are placed too high, and the text is too small.
The Trubarjev Gaj Bar is located on the ground floor. There is no ramp beside the outdoor stairs. The restrooms in the bar are not adapted for people with mobility impairments. The chairs and tables do not contrast with the floor, and the counter is too high.
The bridge connecting the hayrack and bar with the Temkov Mill is wide enough but unevenly aligned with the surrounding ground. Outdoor orientation signs are placed too high, though they are of adequate size and contrast.
Other buildings on the site (the Memorial House, Temkov Mill, and Temkov Saw) are not accessible to wheelchair users, as they also have stairs at their entrances. The stairs lack contrasting markings, and the lighting in these spaces is poor.
The restrooms are located in a separate ground-floor building but are inaccessible due to narrow doors and a sandy, steep access path. The path over the footbridge includes steps.
Adaptations
People with mobility impairments:
- the entrance to the Tourist Information Center (hayrack) is accessible.
Blind and visually impaired:
- the reception counters in the hayrack and barn are located near the entrance,
- signs and labels in the Temkov Mill, Temkov Saw, and barn are high-contrast and legible.
Deaf and hard of hearing:
- the reception counter in the hayrack is well-lit and allows lip reading and facial expression reading,
- the reception counter in the hayrack is positioned so that there are no windows behind it.
Deficiencies
People with mobility impairments:
- there are no designated accessible parking spaces,
- the access path to the barn does not have an appropriate incline,
- the level differences at the building entrances are not properly bridged,
- the reception counter in the hayrack is not height-adjusted for wheelchair users,
- the level differences inside the buildings are not properly bridged,
- some interior spaces (including the hayrack) do not provide sufficient maneuvering space for wheelchair users,
- there are no adapted restrooms,
- exhibits in the display areas are not positioned at appropriate heights for wheelchair users.
Blind and visually impaired:
- the glass doors of the hayrack are not marked in contrast,
- the Memorial House and Temkov Saw are too dimly lit,
- signs and labels in the buildings are not placed at appropriate heights,
- signs and labels in the hayrack and Memorial House are not high-contrast or legible,
- the edges of stairs and level changes are not marked in contrast,
- the path is obstructed by hazardous objects (such as tables in the barn) that are not properly marked.
Deaf and hard of hearing:
- the counter is not equipped with a hearing loop for hard of hearing persons,
- the ticket counter is positioned with windows behind it,
- the glass surface of the ticket counter is reflective and glaring.
