Description of the facility

The library is poorly accessible despite being located on the ground floor of the building. The front entrance to the building has two steps that are without proper bridging. The door to the library is located on the left side of the hallway (past the staircase). The front door width is inadequate (670 mm) and prevents wheelchair access. The library space is too small and does not provide sufficient room to manoeuvre for wheelchair users.

Adaptations:

People with mobility impairments:

  • The height of the reception desk is adapted to wheelchair users,
  • There is an accessible parking spot, but it is not designated.

People with visual impairments:

  • The entrance to the building is easily recognizable,
  • The signboard at the main entrance is suitable,
  • The signage and lettering in the library have contrasting visual markings and are readable.

People with hearing impairments:

  • The reception desk is adequately lit and enables lip-reading and interpreting facial expressions.

Deficiencies:

People with mobility impairments:

  • The building main entrance is not accessible (due to two steps at the entrance),
  • The change of level at the entrance is not adequately addressed,
  • There is not sufficient room to manoeuvre indoors,
  • The building does not have accessible sanitary facilities (the sanitary facilities are only provided in the museum section),
  • The layout of the bookshelves does not enable wheelchair access.

People with visual impairments:

  • The reception desk is not located in the immediate vicinity of the entrance,
  • The path to the remote reception desk is not marked with tactile floor markings.

People with hearing impairments:

  • The reception desk is not equipped with an induction loop (not a condition).
