Description of the facility

The Rudnik Library is located within a larger commercial building that is poorly accessible.
It is situated near a bus stop, and there is a paid parking lot next to the building.
A designated accessible parking space is located on the same level as the entrance, but the path to the doors is paved with granite cubes.
At the entrance, there is a Direct4.me self-service locker system for collecting borrowed materials, but the lockers are mounted only at a height of 1500 mm and are therefore inaccessible.
The library is located on the first floor, accessible by stairs or a vertical platform lift, which was not functioning reliably at the time of inspection.
On the staircase landing, there is a lintel on the outer side by the window that represents a height obstacle.
Some parts of the pathway through the building leading to the library spaces are also sloped (bridge-like), with gradients that are too steep and uneven.

The library premises are spread across two floors.
In the first floor area, there is the main reception desk and a small reading room that also serves as a multipurpose space.
Access to the upper floor is only possible via stairs.
Reception desks are height-adjusted.
Tables in the library are not of suitable dimensions to allow frontal access with a wheelchair.
The library does not have hearing loops.
The building also lacks adapted sanitary facilities. The existing toilets are located on the ground floor, but there are three steps before the restroom entrance.

Adaptations

Mobility impaired:

  • An accessible parking space is located near the entrance,
  • A vertical platform lift is installed in the building for wheelchair users,
  • The reception desk is height-adjusted for wheelchair users.

Blind and visually impaired:

  • Stair edges are marked with contrast strips.

Deaf and hard of hearing:

  • The reception desk is well-lit and allows lip reading and facial expression reading.

Deficiencies

Mobility impaired:

  • The terrain from the parking area to the building entrance is partially steep and unevenly paved,
  • The Direct4.me locker system at the entrance is not positioned at an appropriate height,
  • Height differences inside the library are not adequately bridged; the upper floor of the library is inaccessible,
  • Tables in the library are not suitable for frontal wheelchair access,
  • The self-service computer for material search is positioned too high,
  • The building has no adapted sanitary facilities.

Blind and visually impaired:

  • The information sign at the main entrance is behind reflective glass,
  • On the staircase landing, a lintel by the window creates a height barrier,
  • Glass doors leading to the library rooms are not marked with contrast.
