Description of the facility

The Rudnik Library is located inside a larger commercial building, which is poorly accessible.
It is near a bus stop, and there is paid parking next to the building. A designated accessible parking space is located at the entrance level, but the path to the doors is paved with granite cubes.
At the entrance, there is a Direct4.me automated pickup locker for borrowed materials, but the lockers are installed only at a height of 1500 mm, making them inaccessible.
The library is situated on the first floor, accessible by stairs or a vertical lifting platform, which was not reliably working at the time of the survey. On the stair landing by the window outside, there is a lintel that creates a height obstacle. Parts of the path through the building to the library rooms are also sloped (like a bridge), which is too steep and uneven.
The library spaces are spread over two floors. The main floor (first floor) contains the main desk and a small reading room that also serves as a multipurpose space. Access to the upper floor is only possible via stairs. Reception desks are height-adjusted. The tables in the library are not of suitable dimensions to allow frontal access with a wheelchair.
The library does not have hearing loops.
The building also lacks accessible sanitary facilities. The non-adapted restrooms are located on the ground floor, but there are three steps before the restroom doors.

Adaptations:

Mobility impaired:

  • there is an accessible parking space near the entrance,
  • a vertical lifting platform for wheelchair users is installed in the building,
  • the reception desk is height-adjusted for wheelchair users.

Blind and visually impaired:

  • edges of stairs are marked with contrasting colors.

Deaf and hard of hearing:

  • the reception desk is well lit and allows lip reading and reading of facial expressions.

Deficiencies:

Mobility impaired:

  • the terrain on the path from the parking lot to the entrance is steep and poorly paved in some parts,
  • the Direct4.me pickup locker at the entrance is not at an accessible height,
  • height differences inside the library are not properly bridged; the upper floor is not accessible,
  • tables in the library are not suitable for frontal wheelchair access,
  • the computer for independent search of materials is installed too high,
  • there are no accessible sanitary facilities in the building.

Blind and visually impaired:

  • the signboard at the main entrance is obscured by reflective glazing,
  • on the stair landing near the window, there is a lintel creating a height obstacle,
  • the glass doors of the library rooms are not marked with contrasting colors.
