Description of the Facility

Hotel Slon is partially accessible but not accessible to wheelchair users. A bus stop is located near the hotel. Short-term stopping is possible in front of the entrance, and a valet can, upon request, take the vehicle to the paid parking garage on Trdinova Street. The hotel entrance is difficult to notice and dimly lit. The doors are revolving and therefore unsuitable for persons with disabilities, as well as for blind and visually impaired persons. There is no adapted side entrance. The lobby has glossy and reflective floors, and the lighting is poor. To the left of the entrance is the café and main staircase, straight ahead is the reception, and to the right are barely noticeable elevators and stairs leading to the basement, where the (non-adapted) restrooms are located. The café has sufficient maneuvering space between most pieces of furniture. The tables are at an appropriate height for wheelchair users. The reception desk is located farther away, without a hearing loop, and the path to it is not marked. In front of the reception are tables with vases and flowers, posing a collision risk for blind and visually impaired persons. Only stairs lead to the basement restrooms. Orientation is made difficult by mirrors and glass doors without contrasting markings. On the first floor are the conference center and breakfast room, both with restrooms, but none of them are adapted. Conference and meeting rooms (Club 1, 2, and 3, as well as Café I and Café II) have movable furniture and enough space for wheelchair users but are not equipped with hearing loops. One floor below, accessible via stairs, is a cloakroom with staff assistance. The breakfast room offers sufficient maneuvering space, and the tables are at a suitable height for wheelchair users. Breakfast is self-service, but the counters are not height-adjusted, so food and drinks are not reachable. The upper floors contain hotel rooms with proper door markings. On the second floor, there is a designated accessible room, but due to narrow entrance doors and a poorly designed bathroom (narrow hallway, non-adapted shower, toilet, and sink), it is inaccessible for wheelchair users. From the corridor with the hotel rooms, half a floor down are stairs leading to the fitness area. Half a floor up are stairs to the saunas and relaxation area. The fitness and sauna areas are not adapted for persons with disabilities.

Note: At the time of inspection, the hotel was under renovation. Guests with (mobility) impairments are redirected to the more accessible City Hotel Ljubljana.

Adaptations

For persons with mobility impairments:

  • the building has a sufficiently large elevator for wheelchair users,
  • an accommodation room for guests with mobility impairments is available.

For the blind and visually impaired:

  • signs and labels in the building are mostly placed at appropriate heights,
  • signs and labels in the building are mostly contrasting and legible,
  • elevator buttons are tactile,
  • the elevator is equipped with voice announcements.

For the deaf and hard of hearing:

  • the reception desk is well-lit, allowing for lip reading and reading facial expressions,
  • the reception desk is positioned so that there are no windows behind it.

Deficiencies

For persons with mobility impairments:

  • no adapted parking space is arranged,
  • the main entrance has automatic revolving doors,
  • the reception desk is not height-adjusted for wheelchair users,
  • height differences inside the building are not properly bridged,
  • the accessible room does not have enough maneuvering space for wheelchair users,
  • no adapted restrooms are available in the building.

For the blind and visually impaired:

  • the entrance to the building is not clearly recognizable,
  • the main entrance has revolving doors,
  • there is no information board at the main entrance,
  • glass doors are not marked with contrast,
  • the reception desk is not located near the entrance,
  • the path to the distant reception desk is not marked,
  • there are sudden transitions from bright to dark spaces inside the building,
  • the edges of stairs are not marked in contrast,
  • there are obstacles and hazardous objects in the building (tables with vases near the reception).

For the deaf and hard of hearing:

  • the reception desk and conference rooms are not equipped with hearing loops for hard-of-hearing persons.
